AP's Deceptive Report on the Economy

Newsbusters noticed a flagrant misquote of the labor department by AP in their report on the economy. AP claims that the labor department report blames the record unemployment on workers "perhaps discouraged by their prospects." What the labor department actually said was, " were 396,000 discouraged workers in February, about the same as a year earlier." And February actually had less discouraged workers than the previous month. What the Labor Department is actually saying is the reason wasn't because of discouraged workers.

The same AP article dwells on job cuts in recent months, but doesn't report that the unemployment rate has actually dropped during this same time. The unemployment rate is 3.6% lower than in December.
