AP Distorts Truth About Iran's Nuclear Rights

The Associated Press reported that Iran "cited its right" to nukes, as if that's part of the UN treaty.

Bush may send more troops to Afghanistan

(AP)- "Iran says its nuclear program is aimed only at generating electricity and cites its right under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to pursue uranium enrichment, a process that can produce either fuel for a nuclear reactor or material for a warhead."

The truth is, a civilian nuclear energy program is permitted under Article IV of the NPT. But Iran violated its NPT safeguards agreement by pursuing uranium enrichment in secret, and development of nuclear weapons violates article II of the NPT. The IAEA determined that Iran violated these articles.
