The center's location, in a former Burlington Coat Factory store, is already used by the cleric for worship, drawing a spillover from the imam's former main place for prayers, the al-Farah mosque. That mosque, at 245 West Broadway, is about a dozen blocks north of the World Trade Center grounds. Another, the Manhattan Mosque, stands five blocks from the northeast corner of the World Trade Center site.
Actually that Masij mosque was evicted according to their website. The website explains that they are in a temporary cramped space that they are renting. So it's really a lie to claim that another mosque "stands five blocks away." The website makes it clear that they are not affiliated with the WTC mosque, and AP seems to insinuate that it is. The closest real mosque is the Assata Islamic Center clear across the island in a different neigborhood. And are we really supposed to believe that they are using a Burlington Coat factory as a mosque already?
AP insists in their "fact check" that "Islam is already very much a part of the World Trade Center neighborhood." No evidence. Is this is why 68% of Americans oppose the mosque? AP's claim that it is "mostly Republicans" who "demonized" the mosque is just ridiculous- even Harry Reid and Howard Dean oppose the plans. AP's fact check is nothing more than desperate screams of opinion.
AP falsely insinuates that there is already a mosque at the Pentagon terrorist site: "Muslims pray inside the Pentagon, too, less than 80 feet from where terrorists attacked." Actually this is an inter-faith worship room, it is not Muslim and anyone can worship there, so this has nothing to do with this issue. But there is a huge host of issues that AP ignores:
Nancy Pelosi called for an investigation of anyone who disagrees with the building of a victory mosque near the World Trade Center site in New York City. Obama likewise fiercly supports the Islamic Center. So does mayor Bloomberg, he has been pushing this project through as quickly as possible.
The U.N. funded mosque will replace a historic building which the city illegally refuses to protect.
Not only that, the city refuses to allow the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Unlike the mosque, this Christian church previously stood there and was destroyed by the Muslim attack on America. Yet the Port Authority has blocked its reconstruction for 8 years.
Now I don't actually think we should block the construction of any Muslim mosque. It's their constitutional right. Callous and offensive, yes, but it doesn't infringe any zoning restrictions.
But the media is not reporting the illegal activity swirling around this mosque construction. The city is railroading this through and circumventing the normal construction checks. They refuse to protect the historic landmark already there, which it is their job to do. They refuse to let a Christian church be rebuilt, which proves that this is all about making 9/11 a victory site for radical Muslims. And they flat out lie about mosques already in the area. As for the claim that the imam behind this is moderate:
