NASA Chief Praises China's Brutal Tactics, Wants Boycott Of United States

James Hansen of NASA made a big splash back in 2008 when he falsely reported record warmth levels and started a panic. Actually 2008's temperatures were below average. It took a FOIA request to find out the truth.

Now the man has called for a global boycott against the United States, led by China. This will bend us to China's authoritarian ways, he says, and then the planet will be saved from global warming! Or at least that's what he told the Chinese.

(via "Chinese leadership can save humanity in the fight against global warming... China is not mainly responsible for human-made climate change, which is proportional to total historical emissions. The United States is responsible for 27 per cent. China for 9.5 per cent...

Wait a minute! If a carbon fee makes economic sense and saves the planet, why is the US, for example, not following taht pth? Fossil fuel interests reign in Washington and other capitals. Big money forces legislatures to hatch ineffectual schemes such as "cap-and-trade-with-offsets", a system designed by big banks and fossil fuel interests that assures continued fossil fule addiction.

Is there any hope, if most nations delude themsleves with greenwash, of stopping rule by fossil fuel interests? Yes, China is the best hope. China now leads the world in clean energy investments- nuclear, wind, and solar power. But these carbon-free energies will supplant fossil fuels, in China and the world, only when a rising carbon fee forces fossil fuels to pay their costs to society...

Climate change will soon emerge as the great moral issue of the 21st century, a matter of intergenerational justice. China, with a rational approach, can lead the world through the most dangerous crisis that humanity and nature have ever faced.

He explains in great detail why China's method of dictatorship "stands in stark contrast to that in the United States." They are willing to implement a carbon fee without any of the fuss that comes from "the dysfunctional US Congress."

He proposes a global boycott of US goods that don't include this fee:

"After agreement with other nations, e.g., the European Union, China and these nations could impose rising internal carbon fees. Existing rules of the World Trade Organization would allow collection of a rising border duty on products from all nations that do not have an equivalent internal corbon fee or tax. The United States then would be forced to make a choice. It could either address its fossil fuel addiction with a rising carbon fee and supportive national investment policies or it could accept continual descent into second-rate and third-rate economic well-being..."

"I have the impression that Chinese leadership takes a long view, perhaps because of the long history in their culture, in contrast to the West with its short election cycles. At the same time China has the capacity to implement policy decisions rapidly... can they find a sufficient number of "good barbarians" who will abandon greenwash and participate in an effective policy?"

We non-communists are barbarians! You can email Hansen at:
