When asked about the role of the Supreme Court and judicial activism Newt Gingrich said:
"I respect the independence of the judiciary in judging independent cases, unless the person doing the judging proves to be so extraordinarily out of the context of American life and American law that they shouldn't be there."
Consider that closely. Judges should judge all their cases within the context of the American life or they shouldn't be there. In a followup question to this Newt suggested that the judiciary has failed to do their job and this therefore applies to his support for a ban on gay marriage.
